ONCE I LIVED WITH A STRANGER

Upon moving into my new apartment, I heard steps coming from the attic. – Steps, from the attic? Is someone living up there? (…) Days pass by. (…) Didn’t I just buy a sixpack of soda yesterday? Why are there only four cans left? And didn’t I shut the kitchen door before leaving the apartment?

In ONCE I LIVED WITH A STRANGER, the nameless protagonist begins to doubt her sanity and question her own perception. Based on a true story originally published in the Guardian, the play relates how a woman finds herself trapped between the excitement of finally living alone and strange recurring disruptions of her daily life. But one day, late at night, it finally dawns on her: someone is living in my apartment. (But means me no harm?)

This “phantom image”-like multi-media piece is like a careful composition, oscillating between an inner and outer world, individual and other, quotidian life and pure horror.
